🏨 Hotel
Phum Chunlung, Sangkat Sala Komrerk, Krong Siem Reap, Cambodia
Parent note: The staff here were exceptional — warm, attentive, and endlessly patient with the kids. The private pool alone made the stay worth it for them. Breakfast and food were solid too. Downsides: the room could feel surprisingly dark even during the day, and the water pressure wasn’t great. It’s also a short tuk tuk ride into town — fun at first, especially for the kids — though I might consider staying in the centre next time.

🛺 Siem Reap City Circuit — Night Markets
Explore Siem Reap city, pub street & night markets · Small car (Soum Komsan circuit) · Start @ 6PM · Tour by Thanut Tours
Parent note: The small cars were absolute chaos — loud, cramped, slightly ridiculous — and the kids completely lost their minds over them. I not only had to drag them away, we ended up having to go back again later in the trip because they wouldn’t stop talking about it.

  • 05:00
    AM
🌅 Sunrise Tour of Angkor Wat
Angkor Wat → Bayon Temple → Ta Prohm (Tomb Raider Temple) · Early morning light is magical at Angkor
Parent note: Angkor Wat itself was honestly the hardest part for the kids — crowded, hot, and a lot of walking. Ta Prohm was the total opposite. Much quieter, room to run around, climb roots, act silly, and actually enjoy themselves.
  • 11:00
    AM
    🐀 APOPO Visitor Center
    Mine-detection rat training center · Open 8:30AM–5PM · Pre-booked
Parent note: The giant rats were bizarrely adorable and somehow became one of the kids’ favourite parts of the trip. Excellent “edu-tainment” stop that genuinely kept their attention.

    🏺 Cambodian Pottery Class
    Traditional Khmer pottery techniques
Parent note: The pottery class was a huge hit with the kids — calm, hands-on, and surprisingly fun. Just keep them away from the industrial fans unless you want to explain to the other parent why someone is missing a fingernail.

    🚙 Countryside Discovery Jeep Tour
Tour: 8:00AM – 1:00PM · Explore rural Cambodia, local villages & countryside · By Thanut Tours
Parent note: Forget the temples — fried crickets somehow became the defining experience of the morning. One of the kids still asks for them almost every day.
  • ~13:00
    PM
    🕯️ Senteurs d'Angkor Workshop (Optional)
** If not too tired · Candle / Lip Balm / Smoke Box Workshop · Fragrance & artisan craft experience
Parent note: We actually ended up skipping this because everyone was exhausted after the morning jeep tour. It still looked lovely though, and I’d keep it as a good optional backup activity rather than something to lock in too firmly.

    🌿 Dinner at Wild Restaurant
Reservation @ 6:30PM · Known for signature spring rolls
    → Reserve Table
Parent note: Wild was yummy and very easy with kids. The savoury rolls were good, but the unsurprising winners were the Chocolate Fever and Cheesy Spring Rolls — basically a heart attack disguised as dinner. But at least the kids ate.
  • 20:00
    PM
    🎪 Phare Circus
Street food & market open from 5:30PM · Arrive early to explore
Parent note: The performances were genuinely impressive, but the late timing was rough after a full day out. One kid slept through half the show and, honestly, I was not far behind.

Parent note: The scenery itself wasn’t spectacular, but the ride felt very safe and the guides were warm and patient with the kids. Hold onto your phone tightly though — mine did not survive the journey with dignity.

💡 Travel Tips
💵

☀️
Weather
Hot & humid (~30°C). Siem Reap has a rainy season (May–Oct) with brief afternoon showers. Pack light, breathable clothes + light rain jacket.
🕌
Temple Etiquette
Cover shoulders & knees at Angkor temples. Remove shoes at shrines. No loud behaviour. Early morning (5AM) is best — cooler & fewer crowds.
